John Fogerty is the singer, lead guitarist and principal songwriter behind Creedence Clearwater Revival, the band he founded with his brother Tom Fogerty, Doug Clifford and Stu Cook. Born in Berkeley, California, in 1945 and raised in nearby El Cerrito, he wrote a run of songs that still define American rock and roll, including “Proud Mary,” “Bad Moon Rising,” “Fortunate Son,” “Green River,” “Down on the Corner” and “Have You Ever Seen the Rain.” CCR scored nine Top 10 singles and eight gold albums between 1968 and 1972 and entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. Fogerty’s solo career added “Centerfield,” “The Old Man Down the Road” and “Rockin’ All Over the World,” and he joined the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005. In January 2023 he announced that he owned the rights to CCR’s global catalog after a 50-year legal battle, and in August 2025 he released Legacy: The Creedence Clearwater Revival Years, an album of re-recorded CCR songs. He opens select April through June dates on Zach Bryan’s 2027 tour.
