Vance Joy is the stage name of James Keogh, an Australian singer-songwriter born in 1987 who grew up in Melbourne. Before music took over, he was a promising Australian rules footballer, playing as a key defender for Coburg in the Victorian Football League, and he earned arts and law degrees from Monash University. He signed with Atlantic Records in 2013 and released his debut EP, God Loves You When You’re Dancing, that March. Its song “Riptide” was voted No. 1 in Triple J’s Hottest 100 for 2013 and became his signature hit. His debut album, Dream Your Life Away, arrived in 2014, and he won Best Male Artist at the 2015 ARIA Music Awards. He followed with Nation of Two (2018) and In Our Own Sweet Time (2022), released “Everybody Needs Someone” with Noah Cyrus in 2023, and supported Ed Sheeran on the New Zealand and Australian shows of his Loop Tour in early 2026. He is one of the openers for the Australian dates of Zach Bryan’s 2027 tour.
