Mac Miller, born Malcolm McCormick, was a rapper, singer and producer from Pittsburgh. He broke out with fun, youthful mixtapes like K.I.D.S. Then his 2011 debut album, Blue Slide Park, reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 as an independent release. Over the next several years he grew into one of hip-hop’s most inventive and introspective artists on Watching Movies with the Sound Off, GO:OD AM, The Divine Feminine and Swimming. Those records mixed jazz, funk and soul with candid writing about his struggles. Miller died in September 2018 at age 26. His family later released Circles in 2020, the companion to Swimming. In January 2025 they released Balloonerism, an album he recorded in 2014 that fans had long sought out.
