Halsey is the stage name of Ashley Frangipane, a singer and songwriter from Edison, New Jersey. She built an early following online before her 2015 debut album, Badlands, a dark, cinematic pop record. She reached a huge new audience on The Chainsmokers’ “Closer” in 2016. Her own “Without Me” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2019, and Manic followed in 2020. In 2021 she released If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, produced by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. The Great Impersonator came out in October 2024. Written during a period of postpartum depression and serious health struggles, it draws on pop icons from the 1970s onward to explore identity and disconnection. She is known for her candor about mental health, chronic illness and identity.
