Kendrick Lamar is a rapper and songwriter from Compton, California, widely considered one of the greatest of his generation. After early mixtapes and Section.80, he broke through with good kid, m.A.A.d city in 2012, a vivid story of growing up in Compton. To Pimp a Butterfly in 2015 fused jazz, funk and spoken word with sharp social commentary. DAMN. in 2017 made him the first non-classical, non-jazz musician to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music. Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers followed in 2022. In 2024 his feud with Drake produced “Not Like Us,” which became a cultural phenomenon. He surprise-released GNX on November 22, 2024, then headlined the Super Bowl LIX halftime show in February 2025. GNX features SZA, Roddy Ricch and production from Sounwave and Jack Antonoff.
