Kings of Leon are a rock band formed in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, in 1999 by brothers Caleb, Nathan and Jared Followill and their cousin Matthew Followill. The brothers grew up following their father, a Pentecostal preacher, to churches and tent revivals across Oklahoma and the Deep South. Their early records mixed Southern rock and garage rock with a bluesy edge, and they broke first in the U.K., where Because of the Times (2007) reached No. 1. Only by the Night (2008) made them stars in the U.S. on the strength of “Sex on Fire” and “Use Somebody,” which won the Grammy for Record of the Year. They have since released Come Around Sundown, Mechanical Bull, Walls, When You See Yourself and Can We Please Have Fun (2024), and they have won four Grammys in total. Their 10th album, O My Beloved, a nostalgic 13-song record about family and where they came from, is due November 6, 2026. Frontman Caleb Followill shows up in our Zach Bryan coverage, texting Bryan to come perform in Nashville.
