The features: a reunion, an R&B star and a family affair

  • Summer Walker, “Last night in ATL” (track 4): Atlanta’s R&B star joins Atlanta’s trap godfather. It’s the obvious pick for most-replayed track.
  • OJ da Juiceman, “Lambo pass by” (track 13): A reunion with one of Gucci’s oldest collaborators from the mid-2000s era.
  • Ice Davis, “Priorities” (track 12): Gucci brings his son onto the album. Apple Music’s editorial notes pick a lyric from this song as their favorite: “Rather watch my children smile than put another opp to sleep.”

Who produced it

According to the album announcement, Gucci reunited with J White, Fatboi, Go Grizzly, Jambo and Zaytoven. Zaytoven, in particular, goes back to Gucci’s earliest records, so a return to the classic sound shouldn’t surprise anyone.

The 10/17 and Woptober angle

October has been “Gucci season” for years. He’s turned the month into a brand, Woptober, and he keeps tying releases to 10/17. Last year’s Episodes project came out on Oct. 17, 2025, alongside his memoir Episodes: The Diary of a Recovering Mad Man, co-written with Kathy Iandoli. That book dealt openly with addiction and mental health.

Against All Odds lands almost exactly a year later, one day ahead of the date.

What to know going in (first impressions)

We’re not calling this a review yet. Here’s how the album is framed and what early listeners are pointing to:

  • The theme is perseverance. The title says it, and so does the opener, “Back against the wall.” Apple Music’s notes describe the album as Gucci looking back at three eras: his mid-2000s run, his post-prison comeback in the mid-2010s, and his current “elder statesman” stretch.
  • There are nods to old-school Gucci. Apple highlights “All I have” for horns that “hearken back” to his early days. On X, fans are calling it a return to that classic 2005 trap energy.
  • Big titles, few guests. With only three features in 17 tracks, this is mostly Gucci by himself, which is how a lot of longtime fans like him.

Our pick to start with: “Last night in ATL.” Then run “1017” to close out the date properly.

Why it matters

Gucci is one of the architects of Atlanta trap. His label and mentorship helped launch a generation of artists, and he’s still dropping full-length albums more than 20 years in. Releasing his 18th on the eve of 10/17 is a flex only he can pull off.
