Alright, alright, alright. Matthew McConaughey just gave out the best music rec of the year, and he didn’t even plan it. If you saw the clip and searched “who is NoMBe,” you’re in the right place.
What McConaughey Said About NoMBe on The Drew Barrymore Show
Recently on The Drew Barrymore Show, Drew asked Matthew, totally off the cuff, what he’s listening to right now. His answer: NoMBe. He spelled it out, N-O-M-B-E, and told everyone to put on NoMBe radio. His pitch was that it’s not “sit down and study every word” music. It’s the kind you put on in the background and just float through your house to.
Drew took the advice. She said she put NoMBe on the next morning, and her review was simple: “It’s such a vibe.”
The clip took off from there. Pop Base posted it on X with McConaughey’s line: “You just want to float through your house, doing what you’re doing? Put on NoMBe radio in the background.” That post passed 170,000 views. One reply summed it up: McConaughey recommending NoMBe radio to float through the house “is the most him thing ever.”
How NoMBe Reacted
NoMBe found out through a post on Threads, and then McConaughey followed him on Instagram. NoMBe later joined Drew and Sunny Anderson on the show’s “Drew’s News” segment to react. He said the whole thing felt “very surreal.” He also said that Matthew actually talking about the music and telling people to listen meant more than a quick shoutout or tweet. He makes music for every situation, he said: driving, dancing at the beach with friends, or “for Matthew McConaughey to clean his house.” Then he paid it forward, shouting out Earth, Wind & Fire and his friend Molly Moore, an artist from New York.
Who Is NoMBe?
NoMBe is Noah McBeth, a German-American singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer born in Heidelberg, Germany. He trained in classical piano as a kid, studied music in New York and Miami, and built his career in Los Angeles. He calls his sound “Electric Soul,” a blend of indie, chillwave and modern soul. Fun fact: Chaka Khan is his godmother.
His 2018 debut album, They Might’ve Even Loved Me, got love from NPR and Billboard. Pharrell picked his song “Can’t Catch Me” as the theme for the HBO docuseries Outpost. His music has also shown up on Ballers, Shameless and Ozark.
He hasn’t slowed down, either. In 2025 he released “Lavender Flags” with Forest Claudette and the Kii, along with “Sugar Rush (Late Night Snacks)” featuring PÔNGO. In May 2026 he headed to Germany for his first headline tour there. Logistics forced him to cancel the Hamburg, Cologne and Munich dates, but he kept his Berlin show at Privatclub on the books.
My First Listen: 3 NoMBe Songs to Start With
I’ll be honest: before this, I’d never really listened to NoMBe. So I took Matthew’s advice and pressed play.
He’s right. It’s chill. It works perfectly in the background, but when you actually lock in, it hits on a deeper level too. That’s a hard balance to pull off.
- “Lavender Flags” was my first save. It got me right away.
- “Sugar Rush (Late Night Snacks)” makes me picture some store in NYC playing it while people browse racks. It’s perfect shopping music, and I mean that as a compliment.
- “Milk & Coffee” is pure late-night drive music. Windows down, city lights, nowhere to be. Fun detail: NoMBe told Clash he originally started writing it as a clean electronic song for Billie Eilish to sing, before it turned into a full rock tune.
And the cover art? Every single one stands out. This is an artist who cares about the whole package: the sound, the visuals, the vibe.
